Unity: All Things In Christ | Scripture Writing

English and Spanish Scripture Writing and Copywork

Introduction: The month of February seems to burst into existence. Bright hues of pink and red start to pop up everywhere, pulling us out of January hibernation. As valentine themes fill store displays and Instagram feeds — we are constantly presented with commercial and worldly ideas about love.

It’s easy to discern the difference between the “love” presented in jewelry store commercials and the love we find in God’s Word — because the worldly influences are obvious. However, within The Church, worldly influence and the distortion of word meanings can be more subtle and cause division.

What does it mean to love your neighbor?
What does it mean to seek unity?

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity!” Psalm 133:1 ESV

We were created to dwell in unity as believers, and the absence of that unity can be painful. When division comes between close friends and family, it can be heartbreaking. Does this mean that we overlook false teaching or unsound doctrine in the name of getting along?

Paul wrote extensively about the importance of unity in the book of Ephesians. But he also warned the elders of the Ephesian church when he spoke to them in person:

“I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore, be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish everyone with tears.” Acts 20:29-31

Can we reconcile admonishment and unity? The Bible teaches a resounding “yes!”

As we study Ephesians this month, we will learn what the Bible has to say about unity and how it is achieved. We can’t define unity in our own terms—only the blood of Jesus can hold us together.

As the world struggles to understand the nature of the struggle it faces, the Believer has hope. I encourage you to lean into the redemptive love of Christ, as we study together. We have hope! One day, Christ will gather all things together in Him.
