Introduction: 

Has inflation affected your family? If you drive a car, eat food, or wear clothes, chances are that you are feeling the pain of the devaluation of the dollar. This happens when the same dollar buys you less and less substance over time. The decline seems to happen in multiple directions, as manufacturers and food producers adjust to rising costs. Suddenly there are a few less crackers in the same box, and maybe a little more water pumped into that chicken.

In times of inflation, real assets like gold - the genuine substance without fillers - rise in value.

A similar thing is happening to the content we consume on a daily basis. Just like money, our time and attention are limited, and we exchange some of that time for content. We expect to get something helpful and true for that time. But news articles, Television shows, commercials, books, Bible studies, church sermons are losing their “truth value” every day. This can be done by outright lies (devaluing the content) or by pumping so much fluff and filler into the content that there is very little genuine truth left to be worth the time.

A statement I keep hearing from people is, “I don’t know who to trust.” This means that the value of real, genuine truth is skyrocketing as our attention buys less and less of it every day. People are starving for the real thing, the substance of biblical truth.

Truth is valuable and precious. Proverbs 23:23 tells us to, “Buy truth, and do not sell it.” When there is a shortage of something valuable, its worth is even greater. We need to dig for the truth like we are digging for treasure.

So how do we know that what we find is genuine?

Who is the authority on truth and where should we look for it?

This, Sweet Mom, is what we are going to dig into in this study. We are going to study what the Bible says about truth, where to find it, and how to test it to see if it’s the real thing.
