Draw Near: Fall in Love with God's Word

Introduction: As I write this, snow is falling here in SW Washington. I am comforted as I watch it. There’s just something about winter that helps me slow down. Fire in the fireplace, Christmas clutter cleared away, all things wintry and cozy left out to enjoy. Ahhhh. As we tuck in for cold months that beg hibernation, God invites us to draw near to Him for refreshment and security, and for some reorientation in places we may have strayed.

We’re diving into a different kind of study–one filled with refreshing approaches to God’s precious Word, and just right for the newest days of a year. We’ll look at how we approach the Bible before we’ve even cracked the pages open, and how our own biases can actually block our ability to perceive what God is saying.

We all come to God’s Word with our own ideas, and becoming aware of them, examining how these ideas can affect the way we take in His eternal truths, moves roadblocks and enables us to hear Him in an uncluttered way.
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

When we invite the Spirit of God to show us where we are in our own way, we will be transformed. Psalm 1 tells us that when we delight in the law of the Lord, we become like trees planted by streams of living water, fruitful, nourished, healthy, and filled. That sounds like how I want to face the newness and unknown of what comes next, so that when the storms come, or drought happens, I’ll be rooted with a fruitfulness He supplies! Won’t you join me?

Slow down. Refresh. Good things are coming to those who wait on the Lord.
